eat pray love & committed

Elizabeth Gilbert sent me an unbound copy of her new book a few years ago.  It was called Eat, Pray, Love and she accompanied it with a nice note saying that she hoped I would enjoy it.  I am an avid reader so that weekend I hunkered down on my couch, opened up that book and basically didn’t get up until I finished it.  By then I was in love with the book, the author, her story and her writing.  She sent me the book because the yoga studio that she talks about in the beginning of the book was none other than OM yoga.  Anyway, we all know that Eat, Pray, Love has been a huge success — which it rightfully deserved — and now Liz has written a new book called Committed.  Which she sent to me recently and which I have been joyously devouring.

Last night she did a reading and book signing at Barnes and Noble at Union Square.  I got there half an hour early so I could be a geeky fan and sit in the front row.  This is where I ended up.

At least I got to be in the first row of the standing room area.

Liz did a reading of the first chapter of Committed, which was very fun to hear.  Then she took questions. One person said, “I’m a New Yorker and it was fun to try to guess where you were going to yoga at the beginning of Eat, Pray, Love.  Can you tell us?”  And Liz said, “Yes, I went to OM yoga and sometimes to Integral”  I swear I did not plant that person but it was a wonderful shout out for OM!

Afterwards she gave me a hug and it was lovely to see her again.  After I read Eat, Pray, Love I emailed Liz and naively asked her if she would come to OM and do a reading for our little OM yoga book club and she immediately said yes!  So it was the first reading for that book which then became huge!  A smaller affair than last night.  I am so happy for her success!  Check out the book and as she asked us to do last night — please buy Committed this week so that we can knock Sarah Palin off the #1 spot on the best seller list.  Do it for the country!

That is so cool! Can the new book be part of our new OM 300 reading list?! I just started two books from the list…! XOSG

    HI Sandy,

That is a fun idea! I don’t really think it connect that much to the OM300 content but who knows…maybe Committed can help inspire your final thesis…!

Thanks, Tanya. Yeah, there was something weird going on with my internet this week — Mercury is in retrograde after all. Enjoy the nice weather in the Caribbean for me!

Hi Cyndi. Too funny— the person in the audience that asked Elizabeth Gilbert where she practiced yoga in NYC was me!! I can confirm that you did not plant me in the audience… I am so glad to read that you were in the audience to hear that.

Wow! Well, thanks for asking that question!
